Toddlers

Visiting the dentist can be intimidating for most people, especially young ones who haven’t been to our office before. We recommend bringing toddlers in around 2 years old. Appointments are usually quick and informal with Dr. Daniel examining the jaw alignment, bite, and gums.

Depending on the comfort level, the child may sit in the dental chair, or the parent can hold them during the exam. We can also have their favorite Netflix movie playing to help distract them, if necessary. This is also a great time for us to learn more about your child, and go over basic dental hygiene to keep teeth healthy and free from cavities.

Anxious about toddler dental visits? Here are some ways to ease those fears:

  • Read books about visiting the dentist

  • Bring along their comfort toy

  • Have them watch a tour of our dental office

Kids and Teens

Children at this age will start to grow or have most of their permanent teeth. The first adult teeth to come in are molars, starting around age 6. The last baby tooth is often lost around age 12, while wisdom teeth start to emerge around 17.

During each regular checkup, Dr. Daniel will continue to evaluate your child’s oral hygiene and overall health. This includes drinking and eating habits - as indulging in sugary drinks or sweet treats can lead to early problems with cavities. It’s important a daytime and nighttime routine is established from an early age to keep up healthy dental habits.

Is tooth decay normal in teenagers?

Very much so! It’s easier when kids are younger, as parents can monitor their general cleaning and eating habits. Many teenagers forget to brush and floss. Add sugary foods and sweet treats into the mix, and that’s how the decay starts to build.

Adults

A healthy mouth still needs a dental exam every 6-12 months. Gum disease and tooth decay are super common, so if you’re at risk for these issues, we’ll recommend you come in more often. We take the utmost care in providing dental care, as we know it will last a lifetime. Whether you need a procedure for fillings, root canals, extractions, or more, we can help.

What can adults do to maintain good oral health?

The CDC recommends a few good tips:

  • Brush teeth 2x daily and floss daily

  • Drink fluoridated water and brush with fluoride toothpaste

  • If diabetic, work to maintain control of the disease

Senior

A big emphasis for our dental office is to diagnose problems early. We believe natural teeth and gums are better than replacements, but the only way to achieve this is through prevention and treatment.

Dr. Daniel provides compassionate care, as we understand the complexities behind elderly patients. This includes understanding potential drug interactions from medications, being mindful of sensory or cognitive issues, and sensitivity with those suffering from dementia or physical impairments.

How can senior patients continue caring for their teeth?

  • Brushing daily is great, but flossing is just as important

  • Take calcium supplements to combat osteoporosis

  • Avoid tobacco products
